 THANKSGIVING DAY 2008

BIBTF Thanksgiving Day was marked by special services held at Orange Street
Congregational Church, London on Saturday 11th October 2008.

Well over 50 people attended, including young and old. Besides old friends who faithfully support Fellowship day conferences, we were delighted to welcome several new comers. Many had travelled long distances (including from the West Country, the North of England and Northern Ireland).

The morning session heard a highly informative powerpoint presentation given by guest speaker Mr Martin Lightfoot on ‘Roots and Routes’. This explored the history of migrating Israelite people and the distribution and significance of ancient large stone monuments marking the way.

A free buffet lunch was enjoyed in the crypt as those present caught up with each others news, made new friends and visited the bookstall.

The start of the advertised afternoon programme was postponed to allow time for special prayer given the grave global economic situation.

Resuming the advertised afternoon programme, Dr Michael Bennett (BIBTF President) spoke on ‘Our Approach to the Bible’ emphasizing the need for the Bible to speak for itself; and its authority, accuracy, age-lasting and age-foreseeing qualities. He encouraged all to read and distribute Scripture – ‘the most valuable thing in the world’ and noted the special link between Israel and the Bible.

The days meetings were ably chaired by Mr Paul Boyd-Lee (BIBTF Secretary). He reminded the congregation that the BIBTF takes up only one offering in the year. This was the day, so the Thanksgiving Offering was joyfully given and received.

After the offering hymn invited speaker Pastor Alan Campbell from Northern Ireland gave news and greetings from friends overseas before his interesting address on ‘To whom did Jesus give the kingdom’. He dispelled several popular misconceptions (the Jews, and, the Church) while clearly identifying the Christian Israelite nations as the true recipients.

After the services concluded with the Aaronic blessing most stayed on for tea served in the crypt. Many thanks to all who came, helped or kindly provided extra food which together made the day happy and successful for everyone.

Numbers 6: 23-27
‘… On this wise ye shall bless the children of Israel, saying unto them,
The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace. And they shall put my name upon the children of Israel; and I will bless them.’

God willing we look forward to meeting again at Orange Street on 2 May 2009. Please put this date in your diary now if you hope or plan to come, and please pray for God’s blessing on it.
